Sewing Is My Zen

Patchwork Skirt
Originally uploaded by catscluttercrafts
So here's the 8 tiers I have finished. My cat decided to slide underneath and get into the photo. On the right is her peeking out at the camera. With my other cat in the background ignoring all that is going on. The kitten is sleeping. She's already tired out from running around and terrorizing the house this morning.
I'm start the decreasing rows first. I think and hope it's easier to figure those out first and then add on more length. I've already had to rip and re-sew 2 tiers on because I didn't pay attention to the way the curve was going.
So a refresher for anyone who wonders what I'm doing and a reminder to myself. I cut 2" by 3" rectangles. I then made marks on every other rectangle so I would sew them into trapezoids. So it's giving the skirt curve and reminds me which way is up.
I'm currently sewing on all the tiers I have to figure out if I need to cut more rectangles or not.

Oh Monday!

You can not get me down! Sometimes Monday's are really rough and this Monday was no exception. After working till 4am I woke up to both my girls playing semi nicely. I get up and walk around the house and smell gas?! I go into our kitchen and check the burners. Nothing wrong there. I go into the 2nd kitchen and woah that's definitely gas! Someone had bumped the stove and the gas was leaking. We don't use this stove a lot so it's usually unplugged and the gas is turned off.
I guess it didn't happen the last time I used it. So all the windows and doors had to be opened for an hour! Thankfully there was a warm spell today! Not extremely warm but still warmer than the teens, like it's been.
I did finish this kimono top that has been sitting in my "please finish me pile!" I love the pattern on it and the color! My oldest liked it too.
I also finished my niece's birthday gift and I'm working on my oldest birthday PJ's. I hope to finish them before Friday. Then a Valentine's skirt and shirt! I'm hoping I can get all of this done with the children of the house not taking note of what is going on!
To keep my spirits up Ingrid Michaelson! I just love her! She has a beautiful voice. Keep Breathing helps me keep my cool when times become stressful. Be Ok is just up lifting!
Hope your Monday was better than mine!

BTW Love her glasses!

Village Frock From Sugar City Journal

Village Frock

I just finished this today for my daughter's birthday! I love it. It's crazy and silky. I have no clue what kind of fabric it is. It's wrinkled from being left on the work table wet. I was carrying it around working on the buttons and accidentally spilled water on it. Opps.
Sorry about the intense background but my house is a bloody mess! On the weekends when I work the girls have a free for all and seriously trash the place! I just do not want to be the maid anymore! So what's a mom to do? Forever be a slave to my children's disasters? Or leave them to pick up their own messes? Seriously, how do you other mom's deal with children who are forever wrecking the house?
The Village Frock is available here!

I know I haven't posted anything lately that I've made. I really haven't had time to do anything. I finished this yesterday and couldn't get M to try it on. So I took a picture of it without her in it. I have pictures now but my camera is on the verge of dying. So details about this will come later. The only thing I will tell you is, I did this without a pattern!

Mary Had A Little Lamb Apron Top

Here it is finally! My mystery project, I thought I would never finish! The newest apron top for my daughter, with lots of sheep. It took forever because all the legs and heads of the sheep are so small they have to be hand sewn on. So count how many sheep there are and do the math. It means too many to get done in one week time!
With all the construction going on around here I had to wash it twice because of the dust. I thought her room was untouched because we kept it closed but there was just enough to make it dirty again. It's still wet from freshly being laundered!

So In Love With

Tank Top

I am sooooo in love with this tank top! I don't know if it's the patterns that work for me. Or the fact that I completed it in one day! I was originally going for a top with short sleeves but as this started to be pieced together. I changed my mind! I was going to post this with out a model but once she realized she wouldn't be in the picture, she had to put it on! Kids, too silly!
I actually bought myself something today! I showed this skirt from Anthropologie to my husband and he pretty much told me I had to get it! Now that's what I like to hear! It will be perfect for the Arts & Crafts show we do in February. Gingko's are a huge A&C motif and it's the perfect place to wear it! I ordered 2 tops too and hope one of them works with the skirt. Keeping my fingers crossed. I always ended up buying skirts but never tops. Then I never wear the skirt because I do not have a top that works with it. I think this skirt needs like a yellow, or an off white shirt to work. I'll find out when the package gets here!
